HCA West Florida Recruiters

Growing Your Own

I consider myself very lucky to have a husband who has a love for gardening.  The yard is manicured and the flower beds are beautiful.  What he enjoys the most is his herb garden: rosemary, thyme, basil and chives just to name a few.  It’s always nice to know that fresh herbs are available at any time.  No need to go to the grocery store.  He believes that growing your own is always better.

This year, he added a tomato plant.  Beefeater to be exact.  He actually found this little, skinny tomato plant growing by itself between our property line and the conservation area.  It was replanted into a big pot.  Then filled with potting soil, watered, fertilized and carefully relocated for maximum sun exposure.  After giving this tiny tomato plant all the time and care that it needed, it has grown into a mature, healthy and strong plant.  It produced the sweetest beefeater tomatoes that I have ever tasted!

When I became a recruiter, I heard someone say, “Let’s grow our own!”  I did not know how to respond.  Immediately what came to mind was my own garden of vegetables and herbs.  But, grow our own nurse?  How would you do that?  I had to stop and think for a moment.  Then, I asked myself how did I become a nurse recruiter?  Well, I started as a human resource secretary.  Then someone gave me their time, nurtured me and saw to my needs.  My knowledge grew and I was able to function as a recruiter!  Now as a nurse recruiter, I am continually being watered and fertilized so I can be strong and successful.

From then on, I have seen many successful stories in both of the facilities that I support.  They have given their time and encouragement to a unit secretary, a lab assistant and other individuals who have become registered nurses.  Today, they are giving the best possible care to the patients that they serve.  Nothing is sweeter than to watch someone grow and become successful in their lives.
