Great news for licensed RNs looking to relocate to the Sunshine State! Governor Charlie Christ issued an executive order this week to help expedite RN license transfers to Florida from out of state.
This move is a result of the impact the state of Florida is anticipating as the disaster recovery efforts in Haiti continue. With many local nurses volunteering in Haiti, this order should help with any temporary loss of nursing talent in Florida hospitals. Local news affiliates report that patients from Haiti are being transferred primarily to hospital in South Florida. However, hospitals in Tampa Bay and Orlando are also expecting patients from the area.
With this new process in place, RN license transfers should now only take about two weeks to obtain. Usually the process can take four to six weeks. This executive order will be in place for 90 days.
So if you are thinking about leaving the snow and ice behind and trade it for sand between your toes, now is the time to relocate to Florida. The required application for this expedited process is available at the Florida Department Board of Nursing website at http://www.doh.state.fl.us/mqa/nursing/index.html.
